February: Literacy Month

There were lots of great activities at school this month as February is Literacy Month. Many of the activities were school-wide, organized by the Literacy Committee. One day we dressed up as our favorite characters and then made a parade through the school, we had guest readers in our classroom, and we decorated our door like one of our favorite books; Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever. My favorite event of the month, however, was the 8 Year Olds Read In. Oh yes, we wore our pajamas at school, brought in pillows and blankets and our favorite books (in any language, nonetheless) and read for a solid 90 minutes. It was wonderful, and the kids really showed me their reading stamina by reading nearly the whole time!
Almost everyone was in their pajamas! Even the kids who were a little embarrassed changed into them for the Read In.

Luka found his own special spot.
Noses in their books.

Another activity was reading to our "Buddy Class", one of the 4 Year Olds classes. It was the day before Valentine's Day, so after reading we helped them make bookmarks with hearts on them.

These two are brothers, and it is so sweet to watch them interact.
